About the team

The Rock'n Red Birds are a team of UIW alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends that participated in the 2009 San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. The Get Fit Challenge (GFC) program was created by the race organizers to encourage local businesses, schools and organizations to race "as a team."

Members of the team can race at their own pace. The GFC team in each of the four divisions that has the most participants cross the finish line on race day wins, regardless of each person's finishing time.

We had 97 people on the Rock'n Red Birds team roster last year, and 74 completed the race, which earned us first place in the extra-large division, beating out UTSA and Trinity, who finished second and third respectively.

About the training
The training program is completely voluntary and is designed to give team members the ability to train together, build bonds among each other and motivate fellow team members to finish the race.

The program is modeled directly from Jeff Galloway's 19-week training program. Our training usually takes place on the campus of UIW, but sometimes we venture into the community and run through Brackenridge Park, down Avenue B (parallel to Broadway) towards the River Walk, and other local residential streets to change our training regiment.
