End of Get Fit Challenge is near! Login to comment

Allright friends, it's crunch time! We have one week left until the end of the Get Fit Challenge registrations.  After that it is up to each one of us to push each other across the finish line to make sure we take back 1st place.  I can say that I am very confident that all of us are prepared for these last few weeks of training and that we will take this race by the horns.

Tomorrow, we will practice 7-11 miles based on where you are currently at.  The most important thing at this stage is NO INJURIES!  We will need the help of each of you to make sure we take back 1st place. 

I will post the mapmyrun links to Facebook so make sure to join us at UIW Rock' N Red Birds on Facebook if you haven't already.  This is going to be fun and when it's all said and done you are goign to be so happy to have crossed that finish line and proved to yourself and others that you can do it!

Saturday's 11 mile training has been cancelled due to the 90% chance of rain.  We encourage you to continue training on your own this weekend and focus on doing 7-11 miles depending on where you are right now. 

We will be adjusting the training schedule for the next six weeks since we are ahead of schedule and everyone seems to be feeling comfortable. Next Saturday, we will have a 7 mile and an 11 mile option.  See the schedule below and keep up to date on the changes we make.

If you are visiting our website or blog, you are probably interested in doing the half marathon but still have some doubts.  Let me tell you, you have to come out and join us for training on Saturdays at 7a.m. at Benson Stadium at UIW. 

No matter what your pace is or how little you have done before, our team will coach you to push yourself to new limits and new distances.  There is no way to explain the awesome feeling of crossing the finish line and proving to yourself that you could accomplish such a great feat!  When you put that medal around your neck and take your picture at the end of the race, you will know that it was well worth it.

Join us for training, meet new friends and take on the challenge and help UIW win first place in the Get Fit Challenge.  This isn't about how fast you are, this is about your participation and we need to join us to help take the top spot in the city!

This Thursday we are changing things up a little bit.  We will be meeting at the Alonso Ancira Parking garage, the bottom floor next to the Hillside Dorm.  If you aren't sure where this is, take a look at the UIW map, #48 and #49 each.

We will meet there and start at our regular 6p.m. time.  This will be some good hill work that will be a little different than the normal afternoon training.

So far, so good!  Congrats to everyone for joining us this 2nd week of training.  Last Saturday we had one of our largest turnouts ever for a Saturday training!  Over 47 people showed up and finished the 4 mile trianing map! 

This Saturday, we are going to go just a little farther, 5 miles.  This is going to be a fun one, because we are going to continue down Avenue B, turn right on Grayson and turn around when you get to the Famers Market right before the San Antonio River!

Two quick things today First, I am posting the basic casual training schedule for us to follow from now until November for the half-marathon.  This is mostly to serve as a benchmark for first-timers.  If you are looking for more agressive training, you can add another 15-30 minutes during your morning or afternoon training.  On Saturday's you can increase your distance, but don't push yourself too much, you DO NOT want to get injured!  Your goal is to be ready for the half by November 11!

Second, do not forget to officially sign up with the San Antonio Rock' N Roll Marathon so you count on our team towards the Get Fit Challenge numbers and our 1st place plaque
